Pondicherry Travel Guide

Pondicherry is the capital city of the Indian Union Territory of Puducherry that is surrounded by Tamil Nadu and shares its culture with the state. The majority of the present day city has the flavour of the French community, as France was the main coloniser of the region for a long time. French is still one of the languages used in the area, apart from Tamil and English.

The numerous colonial buildings, churches, temples and French style avenues make the city a popular tourist destination. The colonial ambiance is still preserved in many ways, transporting you to that world while walking down the lanes. The Promenade Beach is a major hub for tourists as there are many heritage buildings and statues present all around. Gandhi statue, Nehru statue, Le café, Governor’s Palace and French War Memorial are among the many other historical places to visit. The city is famous for its dining experience as it serves multiple cuisines like Mexican, Italian, French and Indian, within the colonial style buildings.
