Chennai is the capital city of the state of Tamil Nadu in India. the costal city is one of the biggest cultural, economic and educational centres in India. According to the Quality of Living Survey, Chennai was voted the safest city in India. The city attracts a large number of foreign and domestic health tourists and is rightly called ‘India’s health capital’.
The city offers a good mix of modern and traditional values. The oldest buildings in the city are Kapaleeshwar temple and the Parthasarathy temple, which date back to 7th- 8th century and follow the Dravidian style of architecture. With the arrival of Mughals and then the British, the city saw many changes in the style of architecture. The blend of Hindu, Islamic and Gothic revival styles resulted in Indo-Sarecenic style of architecture and the Chepauk Palace is its prime example. The coastal city is home to the world’s second largest beach- Marina beach, which is a popular location for fairs, festivals and other recreational activities.
