Mysore is a city in the state of Karnataka in India, located in the foothills of Chamundi Hill. It served as a capital to the Kingdom of Mysore for nearly six centuries under the rule of Wadiyar Kingdom. Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan in the 1760s and 70s briefly ruled the region. The city is famous for its historical monuments and sites with Mysore Palace being the most famous.
The city is most visited during the festival of Dussehra because of the extravagant 10 day festival that takes place every year. Jaganmohana Palace, the Jayalaskhmi Vilas and Lalita Mahal are the other major palaces in the city. Chamundeshwari temples atop Chamundi Hill is a religious place that many people visit. The city is also famous for its yoga culture and many people from across the world come here to practice yoga. The Mysore Zoo and the Blue Lagoon Lake are two of the other prominent tourist spots for recreational activities.
