Kanyakumari is a major tourist spot in Tamil Nadu and is the southern-most tip of the peninsular India. The city gets its name from the Devi Kanya Kumari temple in the region. The Laccadive Sea surrounds the city from three sides.
The major tourist spots in the district are Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thiruvallavar Statue, Devi Kanya Kumari Temple and Nagaraja Temple. The city is a famous pilgrimage site because of the visits from sages like Agastyar and Swami Vivekananda enhancing the significance of the place.
The ferry rides to reach the distant rock islets is a great experience in itself. The place is famous for its beautiful sunsets and sunrise as it gives a panoramic view of the sea. On full-moon evenings, one can witness the sunset and moonrise at the same time, which is a sight you will never forget. Kanyakumari is well-connected with all the major cities of India and this makes it one of the top tourist destinations in India.
