    Jaswant Thada in Jodhpur is one of the popular monuments in Rajasthan with thousands of visitors every year. It is a cenotaph, built by Maharaja Sardar Singh II in 1899 in the loving memory of his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. A cenotaph is basically a tombstone or place erected in the honour of a personality but without the remains at the very same location. Just like all the monuments in Rajasthan, Jaswant Thada is elaborate in every sense. Ever since building has stood on this ground, it has now become the burial ground for the members of Marwar family.

    The best part about this monument is how beautiful it looks because of the complete exterior made of white marble. Since the Sun plays a significant role in the Hindu religion and is looked upon as a God, the monument was built out of white marble so that it reflects the maximum possible light. In the complex of Jaswant Thada, you get to witness a beautiful tiered garden, a small lake and multiple gazebos spread around. Inside the cenotaph, you get to view portraits of the great rulers of the city. All this makes, Jaswant Thada one of the best places to visit in Jodhpur.

    • Jaswant Thada is located amidst the lush green trees and a lakeside in a village called Lawaran in Jodhpur. Since Jodhpur is well connected with all the major cities in the state and otherwise as well, reaching it won’t be a problem. From there, you can hire a cab or taxi to reach Jaswant Thada or else take a public transport if you want a unique experience among the locals. The entry timings are 9AM-5PM, so yu must plan your day accordingly.
